How Did They Do it?
In 1987 they were able to raise just enough money to buy a second property down the road from their first home. The idea being that the rental income would cover most of the costs. Their success spiralled upwards from this helped by both the massive increase in demand for housing in the South East, the Channel Tunnel and the Government’s desire to increase new housing in the area. With property values rapidly increasing they would use equity from the previous purchase as a deposit for the next purchase.

Later, when the housing crash and recession of the early nineties happened, they bought two three bedroom semis – that initial investment of £50,000 is now worth over £500,000.

As Mr Wilson was quoted “We began to feel like we were printing money. We are very simple people but we could see properties were rising by the minute. For every £1 we took in rent, the properties were going up in value by £5. Judith saw young professionals wanted new houses a stone’s throw from transport links – so she bought them all”
