Difficulties - Be Aware!
The
dire stock market performance of the past few years has many experts
advising that this lacklustre and risky trend may continue for some
time. For many years the idea that pension funds would start failing
was never considered.
For many companies with final salary pension schemes there is an
ever-increasing burden on the ability of company’s profits.
Two fifths of final salary schemes have been closed to new staff
in the past year and 7% of companies have shut their schemes to
existing employees according to the National Association of Pension
Funds.
And when it comes to retirement the amount you receive from your
pension is determined by the value of the stock market and prevailing
annuity rates at date of retirement which means that your retirement
income can be a bit like the lottery.
