The UK pension industry until not long ago used to be the best in Europe; no longer so. Due to poor stock market performances and the imposition of taxes on pension funds growth.

Continuing Difficulties - Be Aware!
The dire stock market performance of the past few years has many experts advising that this lacklustre and risky trend may continue for some time. For many years the idea that pension funds would start failing was never considered.

For many companies with final salary pension schemes there is an ever-increasing burden on the ability of company’s profits. Two fifths of final salary schemes have been closed to new staff in the past year and 7% of companies have shut their schemes to existing employees according to the National Association of Pension Funds.

And when it comes to retirement the amount you receive from your pension is determined by the value of the stock market and prevailing annuity rates at date of retirement which means that your retirement income can be a bit like the lottery.
